Imagine Yourself as a Superhero

An eight year olds' interpretation of the assignment to paint yourself as a superhero.

Some opted to create beautiful scenes instead of superheros. Just as wonderful!

Superhero flies over the land, river and houses.

A celebration of self.

Living in a house with a fish pond next door.

Super girl!

The best part about this super girl is her heels!

Can you spot the super hero?

Self as robot hero.

Super bandit with major muscles.

A thirteen year olds' self portrait as a superhero.

An inspired student who created this on his own.

The little siblings were restless, so this is what they made.

Super Me!

This weekend we drew ourselves as superheros!
More pictures to come...

Identity Weaving

Students worked on creating multimedia pieces  that expressed aspects of themselves, using cloth, pastels and watercolour. They then took these pieces and wove them into a collaborative piece.
It was a laid back day, with lots of acting, goofing off, and working together.
In the end they liked their paintings too much to leave them in the weaving, so they took them home as solo pieces.
Students worked on creating strips of cloth that told a story about themselves.

Spreading out around the house to focus on art.

A work in progress.

Goofing off with the extra cloth pieces before art making starts.

Beginning to weave their identity paintings into the group piece.

Identity books in process, and some lovely landscapes from the weekend.

A book by Bia, a nine year old budding artist who loves to draw princesses in pen and take care of her younger sister.

A book by Bird, a ten year old who likes riding his bike, robots, dogs, and drawing intricate houses full of colour and imagination.

Ghokam's book is full of detail, and she works really hard to get everything right before adding colour. Her dream job is to be an artist.

Solwit's landscape, painted on a rainy morning under the house where we have class.

Rainy day landscape done by 10 year old Dao

Bee's dream is to own a flower shop.

This weekend the students worked on creating paintings of their dream futures. I asked them to think about what they want to be doing, or who they want to be, in ten or twenty years time. They were eager to get started on creating these paintings and they made some lovely work by the end of the day.
These paintings will go into their identity books, which are coming together well (pictures to come).
I'm asking the students to make images of their future to provide a creative and positive means for imagining their futures. It's been great to see their enthusiasm for these ideas, and to see their pride in the work they create. I'm hoping to provide a positive experience for them, and to empower them through these lessons. Here are their pictures!
